Paint With Words

Say it with Paint!

As much as I love words, I think I love color more. Color evokes mood, texture, taste and atmosphere, among many other things. Actually, words and colors have a lot in common. Thus when I ran across a list of paint colors that went beyond mere dull descriptive purposes, I was thrilled. And determined to find a swatch of each one--and if possible, meet the creator of the names these fabulous paint colors!  Here are a handful of my favorites.

  • Dorian Gray
  • Milkshake
  • Going To The Chapel
  • Sweet Caroline
  • Mouse’s Back
  • Get Back Jack
  • Final Straw
  • Death by Chocolate
  • Dead Salmon
  • Come Sail Away

Teachers, this is a fabulous topic to discuss with your students. Ask them what color they think these names might represent. Challenge them to come up with their own descriptive and innovative paint colors. Then write about it!
